Pup Questionnaire
There are no right or wrong answers to the questions below. They are meant to save time for you and me - and to keep me from getting confused about who said what :-)
Your name and location: *
Your phone number please? *
and email address? *
How did you find out we had Afghan Hounds? *
Answer yes if you understand that no puppies are reserved without a deposit of half their price. *
Is there a particular puppy that you are interested in? *
Do you prefer a specific age or color? *
Would you prefer a male or female?
What kind of a residence do you live in? *
Are there children in your home? *
What are their ages?
Are there people in your household with allergies? Describe if so. *
Do you have a fenced yard or access to a fenced area like a dog park? *
Have you had dogs as pets before? *
If so, where did you get it/them?
Do you have other pets? *
If so, what are they?
If you have pets now, are they spayed/neutered?
Why do you want an Afghan Hound? *
Have you had Afghan Hounds before? *
If so, what was that experience like?
Why do you think you have a good home for an Afghan Hound? *
What are your expectations of an Afghan Hound if you get one? *
Are you interested in getting a puppy that might be a show dog prospect? *
Do you expect to get this dog spayed/neutered? *
Solitary Afghan Hounds can get bored. Are you willing to take steps to prevent that? *
Where will this puppy be during the day? *
Where will this Afghan Hound sleep? *
When would this puppy be left alone? For how long?
Will this Afghan Hound be an indoor or outdoor dog? *
Are there times when this dog would be off leash while away from your house/yard?
What would this dog's daily routine be on a typical week day? *
If this dog were to get sick or injured, can you afford adequate veterinary care? It could cost more than the purchase price. *
Do you realize that you can either keep a long coat on this dog or give it a haircut periodically to minimize grooming requirements? *
Afghans average 13 year lifespans. Some can live to 16 or more years. Are you prepared to provide for one during it's whole life? *
Have you ever had to turn a pet back to a shelter, rescue organization, or breeder? *
If yes, please decribe the circumstances.
Are you familiar with using crates for housetraining a puppy? *
How will you arrange for your dog's potty requirements? *
How will your dog get exercise? *
Do you realize there are a number of normal puppy behaviors (as with any puppy) that are possibly objectionable to you? Those manageable behaviors may have to be dealt with up until the age of two or so. They may end up being inconvenient, expensive, or time consuming to manage. I can send you a list :-) *
Training from a young age is really helpful. Besides Come, Sit, Down, Leave it, etc. there are many fun things Afghan Hounds can learn that will make dog ownership more fun and less hassle. Are you in a position to spend a few minutes every day training a puppy? *
Do you have an easy way to send photos to us so we can see how he appears as he grows up and matures? *
Is there anything else you would like to tell us about your situation?
Answer yes (again) if you understand that no puppies are reserved without a deposit of half their price *
